Amitabh Bachchan is set to reprise his iconic role as Subhash Nagre one more time. On the actor’s 83rd birthday today, PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that ‘Sarkar 4’ is officially in development. This time, the stakes will be higher, as Abhishek Bachchan is also expected to return as Shankar Nagre.
Abhishek’s character was killed in a bomb blast in ‘Sarkar Raj’ (2008), and the franchise took a different direction with ‘Sarkar 3’ (2017). How Shankar will be reintroduced in the fourth installment is not known yet, but it seems that the producers were exploring the possibility since last year and have now finalized a concept that promises to be a game-changer for the series.
“Amitabh and Abhishek were jointly narrated the basic plotline and have liked it. They’ve verbally given their approval to move forward. Ram Gopal Varma, who was hesitant to extend the franchise further, has also agreed to direct this new, revamped story. The script is currently being written, and if everything goes as planned, the film will go into production in the first half of 2026,” a source revealed.
‘Sarkar 4’ has been in the works for years now. The producers were in talks with Aditya Roy Kapur for a parallel lead role last year, with ‘Gangaajal’ director Prakash Jha being considered to helm the project. However, that version was subsequently shelved. The makers have since been focusing on bringing back Abhishek Bachchan and it now seems that they have locked in a storyline strong enough to reignite the ‘Sarkar’ legacy on the big screen.
