PeepingMoon Exclusive: Ananya Pandey's debut series ‘Call Me Bae’ set to roll; Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada & others join the cast

Last April, Karan Johar’s digital content arm, Dharmatic Entertainment, announced three projects for Amazon Prime Video, including a docuseries, India Love Project, which shares the inspiring love stories of real people from across the country. The company’s first Amazon Prime original, Ae Watan… Mere Watan, starring Sara Ali Khan, has already been finished and is expected to premiere later this year. The period drama, helmed by Kannan Iyer, is based on a true incident and portrays the tale of a young girl who became uniquely instrumental to the freedom fight of Indian independence. And now, nearly a year after the announcement, Dharmatic Entertainment is all set to take its second Amazon Prime project to the floor.

PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Dharmatic Entertainment’s Call Me Bae will go into production at the end of this month. The pre-production has been going on for months, and now they are set to begin shooting around March 22 in a Mumbai studio. As we revealed last September, the series stars Student of the Year 2 actress Ananya Pandey in the titular role of Bae, who is disowned by her ultra-rich family owing to a salacious scandal. The Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar, and Rohit Nair-written and Collin D’Cunha-directed show is centered around a young girl’s journey as she overcomes stereotypes and discovers who she really is.

Ananya aside, Call Me Bae features an ensemble of young actors in pivotal roles. Go Goa Gone actor and popular comedian Vir Das, Guilt and Class fame Gurfateh Pirzada, and Mismatched actor Vihaan Samat also star in this slice-of-life comedy-drama series. Moreover, Mini Mathur and Varun Sood have also been roped in to play key roles. While Mini is said to be playing Ananya’s mother and Varun a gym trainer in the series, the character details of Vir, Gurfateh, and Vihaan haven’t been revealed yet. The show will be shot primarily in Mumbai and is expected to be wrapped by June 2023.

Ananya has as many as four projects lined up for this year. The actress will next be seen opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in Raaj Shaandilyaa’s Dream Girl 2, slated to release in cinemas on July 7. She will then feature alongside Siddhant Chaturvedi and Adarsh Gourav in Excel Entertainment’s Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, a digital story about three friends living in Mumbai. The actress is also doing Dharma Productions’ C. Shankaran biopic with Akshay Kumar and Vikramaditya Motwane’s yet-untitled cyber-thriller, in which she plays a social media influencer. Ananya has also signed one more film, which she is expected to shoot after finishing her debut web series. Stay tuned to PeepingMoon.com as we reveal more about that soon.
