PeepingMoon Exclusive: 'Aashiqui girl' Anu Aggarwal reacts to Kartik Aaryan's Aashiqui 3 announcement, says 'if role interests me, would love to act in it'

With her debut film, Aashiqui, Anu Aggarwal made critics and the audience sit up and take notice of her talent. Now, 32 years later, the franchise got its third installment. Aashiqui 3 was announced this morning. Kartik Aaryan will be headlining the film directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Bhushan Kumar's T-Series and Mukesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films. The leading lady of the film is yet to be announced.

Soon after Aashiqui 3 was announced, PeepingMoon.com got in touch with Anu, who played the lead role in the 1990 musical romantic drama film. Talking to us, the actress sent out her love and good wishes to the team. She further reacted to Kartik playing the lead role and whether Aashiqui 3 will be as successful as its predecessors. Anu also said that if given a chance and a good role, she would love to star in the upcoming edition of the blockbuster franchise.

Excerpts from the interview:

Aashiqui 3 has been announced today. What is your reaction to this?

I am thrilled to have created an iconic title that the gen-next is holding up in high esteem. It gives me a sense of gratitude, being timeless, faultless and having contributed richly to Bollywood in the minuscule time I was in it.

Kartik Aaryan is the lead...

Whether Kartik Aaryan is the perfect lead or not will be determined by the character there is to play. I am really not sure about what the role will be or what the story/ script of the film is. It all depends on how it flows. The actress will also depend on what the role is and how well she can play it.

Do you believe Aashiqui 3 will manage to be a rage like your film?

Aashiqui 2 wasn't a sequel to my Aashiqui (1990), so Aashiqui 3 may or may not be related in any way to it. Of course, I am a well-wisher and I wish the best to the team as I had also done to Aashiqui 2. But at the end of the day, nobody can predict how successful a film will be at the box office as there are many factors involved. Above all, each film like each person has its own karma.

Aashiqui 3 will not be the typical sequel but a standalone project. Does it disappoint you?

I believe in the open-ended approach to my relationship with acting. On the contrary, instead of disappointment, I find the idea of a new standalone project exciting.

What’s your opinion on remakes and sequels of ‘90s Bollywood films?

It proves a film's credibility and its value gets raised each time someone wants to remake it or rename a film after it. So it’s all good.

If offered, would you like to join the cast of Aashiqui 3?

Would I act in it? I am an actor and I was a part of creating the blockbuster and revolutionary Aashiqui so why not? If the role offered interests me, makes an impact on the general storyline, increases the USP of the project or is a way to bring across positive change and awareness, I may just do it.
