Filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who is gearing up for the release of his Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan starrer Simmba tomorrow, has already finalized his next directorial project. PeepingMoon.com has learned that the director – known for his entertaining masala films and cop dramas – has roped in Akshay Kumar to play the main lead for his next which he will dive into right after Simmba.
The film which marks the exciting collaboration between Rohit and Akshay, we heard, will be a remake of the Malayalam film Action Hero Biju. Akshay will be seen playing a cop in it. “Rohit is working on a cop universe. He wants to create and establish diverse larger-than-life cop characters and has an ambitious plan to merge the worlds of these cop franchises in Avengers style. He is likely to do the crossover film after the Akshay starrer comes out,” a source close to Rohit exclusively told us.

The film is scheduled to go on floors in May or June 2019. Buzz is that Akshay has postponed Hera Pheri 3 which was also supposed to roll around the same time and has given his dates to Rohit to shoot this masala entertainer. A production team informed us that the film will be shot in one go over two months in North India. The official announcement is likely to be made soon.

For those unaware, Akshay and Rohit were earlier supposed to collaborate for a comedy film in 2017. Rohit was producing it while Priyadarshan was directing but things didn't work out and the project was shelved even before the announcement. Now with the two finally teaming up, one can only have quite high expectation from the duo. Meanwhile, aside from Bajirao Singham Ajay Devgn playing a cameo in Simmba, PeepingMoon.com has also learned that Akshay has a walk in appearance in the film.
