You may not be there when Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja get married on Tuesday, May 8, at her aunt Kavita Singh’s heritage bungalow ‘Rockdale’ at Bandra Bandstand. But we can tell you what the gorgeous actress and high priestess of Bollywood fashion is going to be wearing for the traditional Sikh Anand Karaj wedding ceremony that morning.
PeepingMoon.com sources reveal that Sonam will be dressed in a chikankari lehenga by Bollywood couturiers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
We already told you that the fashion-conscious Sonam had shortlisted three big designers for her wedding trousseau. Now it turns out that Abu-Sandeep have designed her wedding dress. Sonam is a big supporter of Indian weaves and has opted for an off-white chikankari lehenga with intricate bridal work like was last seen when the Nawabs ruled Lucknow. Abu-Sandeep are the pioneers of the chikankari work among Indian designers.
Interestingly, the renowned couturiers have returned to styling a film after 16 years with Sonam’s Veere Di Wedding which celebrates the theme of marriage in true band-baaja-baraat Bollywood style. Before this, Abu-Sandeep had last done Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s costume drama Devdas in 2002. Makeup artist and close friend Namrata Soni is doing Sonam’s bridal makeup. She is associated with the actress for over a decade.
The baubles are handpicked by mom Sunita Kapoor who has zeroed in on antique jewelry for her daughter. Kid sister and stylist Rhea Kapoor is working closely with Abu-Sandeep on Sonam’s look. This will be a daunting task considering the benchmark she has set by styling the Neerja actress for her phenomenal Cannes outings and other red carpet appearances till date. Rhea, who has unconventional tastes, will dress in a long jacket paired with a flowing skirt to fit in the shoes of the bridesmaid for her sister. Abu-Sandeep will be taking care of her outfit too.
Father of the bride, Anil ‘Jhakaas’ Kapoor, has fallen back on his old friend and popular menswear designer Raghavendra Rathore for his wedding rags. Son Harshvardhan has widely decided to follow Papa’s lead and will also wear Rathore for the wedding.
