Mumbai wedding for Sonam Kapoor with Sangeet choreography by Farah Khan

The Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja wedding is turning out to be a regular rigmarole. It’s not happening on May 11 and 12, at the resort town of Montreux outside Geneva, as we reported at the end of March. Now, hold your breaths, the couple has decided to bring the glam and glitz of their wedding back home to Mumbai. And, if they can find a suitable venue in the city soon enough, it may happen as early as the end of April. Otherwise the lovely Bollywood actress and fashion brand owner will stick to their original dates and tie the knot over May 11 and 12.

According to PeepingMoon.com sources, the reason for cancelling the foreign destination wedding and shifting the ceremony and celebrations back home was that the families were facing a logistical nightmare in getting Sonam and Anand married at Montreux. Papa Anil Kapoor must have realized it first and probably thrown up his hands in despair because he was responsible for making block bookings in airlines and hotels for family and friends to fly down and stay in Montreux.

So, after struggling with the idea of a romantic wedding in the resort town nestled between steep hills and a lake, wine chateaus and medieval island castles, the Kapoors decided to chuck Montreux and return to Mumbai where it would be easier  to contain the event and keep it small and among intimate people only. Confirmation that it’s happening here is the tip that Bollywood director Farah Khan will be choreographing the Sangeet ceremony. There is bound to be a Mehendi ceremony as well followed by a traditional Hindu wedding.

Earlier, it was expected that Sonam’s family and close friends from the industry would be attending the Montreux wedding and therefore taking a week’s break from their respective Bollywood commitments. Now with the wedding shifting to Mumbai, they would not be required to do so. Sonam had reportedly chosen Switzerland as her wedding venue earlier as she is the brand ambassador for the luxury Swiss watch manufacturer IWS Schaffausen and was also enamoured by the beauty of the country. She was expected to be walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival as the brand ambassador for L’Oreal immediately after the wedding. There is no change yet it that plan.
