“The moment I heard Ritvik Sahore’s name, it was a YES”: Avinash Arun on casting the actor as Aniket Nikam in Prahaar

With Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam set to hit theatres this Friday, director Avinash Arun reveals how Ritvik Sahore came on board to play Aniket Nikam, son of Rajkummar Rao’s Ujjwal Nikam.

Sometimes, casting a character is as simple as knowing you’ve found the right person. For director Avinash Arun, that moment came when casting director Anmol Ahuja suggested Ritvik Sahore for the role of Aniket Nikam in Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam. The actor, known for his earnest performances and relatable screen presence, was an instant yes for the filmmaker.

Speaking about casting Ritvik, Avinash Arun shares, “Anmol Ahuja ka suggestion tha, he’s my casting director. And instantly, the character I was looking for, when I heard his name, it was like, YES!

Ritvik ek honest, ek earnest, itna ek sensitive actor hai, and again, very thorough with his craft. I’m extremely happy that I’m blessed with such a great ensemble around. Har ek chhote-chhote character mein mujhe lagta hai ki humne bahut mehnat ki hai. Overall, abhi tak raha hai ki maine career mein bahut achhe-achhe logon ke saath kaam kiya hai, as a DP, as a director also.”

For Ritvik, who has steadily built a diverse body of work across films and web series, Prahaar brings him into a compelling story inspired by the life and work of special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. He plays Aniket, Ujjwal Nikam’s son, with Rajkummar Rao stepping into the titular role. The father-son dynamic adds another personal dimension to a story rooted in one of India’s most closely followed legal cases.

Having started his journey as a child actor with films like Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Dangal, Ritvik has since made his mark with shows and films including Flames, Indori Ishq, Campus Diaries and Jamnapaar. With each project, the actor has explored different shades of his craft, and his casting in Prahaar reflects the kind of sensitive, grounded performance that has become a key part of his screen presence.

As Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam prepares for its theatrical release this Friday, Avinash Arun’s words offer a glimpse into the thought behind assembling the film’s ensemble, with Ritvik emerging as a casting choice that clicked from the very beginning. Audiences can watch him as Aniket Nikam when the film releases in theatres on October 16.
