Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s pairing is one of the biggest talking points around Daayra, but what makes it genuinely interesting is the fact that the two actors are not simply sharing the screen as co-stars. They are playing two senior police officers who approach the same case from very different perspectives.
Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj plays DCP Raman Kumar. The trailer sets up a tense investigation following a horrific crime, with the two officers gradually finding themselves on opposite sides of the case. Raman’s actions, particularly around an alleged encounter, come under scrutiny, while Ajooni is determined to uncover what really happened.
And that is where the pairing becomes more exciting. There is no conventional hero-versus-villain equation here. Both characters are police officers, both are dealing with the same case and both seem convinced that their approach is justified. It creates a clash of perspectives rather than a straightforward clash of personalities.
For Kareena and Prithviraj, this is also a fresh screen combination. Neither has the familiarity of a long-running Bollywood pairing with the other, which makes their dynamic harder to predict. Kareena brings the authority of Ajooni’s investigation, while Prithviraj’s Raman appears more guarded and uncompromising. The contrast gives their scenes an added tension.
What also makes Daayra stand out is that the film does not appear to treat its police characters as uncomplicated heroes. It asks where duty ends and personal conviction begins, and whether justice can ever justify stepping outside the law. The film’s central case is seen through contrasting investigations, with both sides getting space within the narrative.
That makes the Kareena-Prithviraj pairing more than just exciting casting. Their characters represent two different ways of looking at the same system, and watching those perspectives collide could be one of Daayra’s biggest strengths. Directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, Daayra is scheduled to release in theatres on September 18, 2026.
