The controversy surrounding the Haryanvi song ‘Tateeree’ has now deepened further. Rapper Badshah was already facing criticism regarding the lyrics of the song, and a major development has now emerged in the matter. Taking serious cognizance of the dispute, the Haryana State Women’s Commission has signaled its intent to take strict action.
Specifically, several organizations and social activists had raised objections regarding the song's lyrics and music video. They allege that the language used in the song is offensive towards women and minor girls. Acting on these complaints, the Women’s Commission took cognizance of the matter and summoned Badshah for a hearing.
However, Badshah failed to appear before the Commission on the scheduled date. Consequently, adopting a tough stance, the Commission has announced that it will issue arrest orders against him and has directed the concerned officials to take action in this regard. It is reported that complaints against the song have also been lodged in various other locations. On the other hand, Badshah’s representatives have stated that he did not officially receive a summons.
It is worth noting that the song ‘Tateeree’ became a subject of intense discussion on social media immediately upon its release. While some viewed it merely as entertainment, many others expressed their protest, labeling the lyrics as offensive.
Now, following the Women’s Commission’s firm stance, the controversy has escalated even further. Consequently, all eyes are now fixed on what legal action will ensue in this matter and how Badshah will respond to the situation.
