Kashyap Shangari has slowly established himself as a dependable actor known for playing complex, emotionally grounded characters. His performances have a quiet intensity that sticks with the audience. Vishal Bhardwaj's O'Romeo showed once again how good he is as an actor.
When asked about a funny or unexpected memory from the shoot, Kashyap was quick to clarify that it wasn’t funny in the usual sense. Instead, it was something deeply moving.
“Not funny but a very warm and special moment for me was when my flamenco dance piece ended. Just as I heard ‘cut,’ I suddenly heard a loud cheer of ‘Olé!’ from over 100 Spanish actors who were there that day. The cheer was not part of the scene; it was for my dancing,” he shared.
The flamenco sequence had required detailed preparation and complete focus. Performing a culturally rooted dance form in front of Spanish actors was not something he took lightly. He wanted to do justice to the form and present it with respect.
“I feel my performance truly touched their hearts. It was my way of showing respect to their culture, and their spontaneous, traditional response meant so much to me,” Kashyap added.
The reaction was unplanned and instinctive. There was no cue for applause. It simply happened. For him, that made it even more meaningful. In that brief second after “cut” was called, the atmosphere shifted from intense concentration to shared celebration.
“That moment became a core memory; it still brings a smile to my face. Out of sheer joy, I immediately called my choreographer, Kunal Om, to share what had happened. That truly was a win for us both,” he revealed.
For Kashyap Shangari, the cheer of “Olé” was more than appreciation. It showed that hard work, honesty, and respect can go beyond language and culture. That sound is still one of his favourite memories from O'Romeo, even after the shoot was over.
