If you Google Manish Malhotra, the search engine will tell you he’s India’s richest fashion designer, “But it won’t tell you that it took me 35 years of hard work, creativity and enthusiasm to get there,” the man himself admits to PeepingMoon.com’s ‘BenchMARK Conversations’ podcast presented by Reliance Digital. Talking to Mark Manuel, the celebrated Indian couturier and costume stylist said, “Even in the most difficult time, when creatively I’ve had mental design blocks, I’ve always had work, and that has been a blessing for me.
The couturist was once the outsider who came from the movies and found that people didn’t believe in him, explained that when the whole stylist syndrome started, it hit him the most because no stylist wanted to work with him. “That’s because Manish Malhotra was already friendly with the stars and they wanted to score brownie points with the stars and get them different designers,” he said. “But when trends were changing, consistent love from the movies, from the audience, and clothes selling was going on, so I could go on too. I’m so grateful that I’ve always had work.”
