After Shaking the Nation with The Kerala Story, Sudipto Sen Takes on Faith Itself in His Most Provocative Film Yet

Filmmaker Sudipto Sen, whose 2023 blockbuster The Kerala Story sparked nationwide debate and global attention, is back and this time, he is turning his unflinching gaze toward the volatile world of faith, belief, and the dangerous consequences of blind devotion.

CHARAK – Fair of Faith, the upcoming Hindi feature marks Sen’s first film as a producer and signals another explosive chapter in his controversial yet conversation-defining filmography. Known for tackling subjects others hesitate to touch, Sen once again positions cinema as a mirror to society’s most uncomfortable truths. Charak ventures into a dark and rarely explored territory where faith can both redeem and annihilate, where devotion slips into obsession, and where the line between life and death dissolves without warning. The film promises a haunting narrative that interrogates how belief systems are manipulated, commodified, and ultimately weaponized against human vulnerability.

Much like The Kerala Story, the makers describe Charak as a film rooted in grassroots Indian realities, designed not merely to entertain but to ignite national discourse. The project is being positioned as a slow-burning, thought-provoking cinematic experience that lingers far beyond the theatre.

Speaking about the film’s unsettling core, Sudipto Sen stated, “Faith has the ability to heal, inspire, and destroy. CHARAK exists in that uncomfortable space where devotion turns dangerous, where life and death make no judgments, and where humanity is tested in silence.”

The announcement has already generated curiosity within industry circles, with the makers confirming a theatrical release on March 6, 2026. They also emphasized that this is only a title reveal, with the film’s layered narrative and disturbing truths to be unveiled gradually. CHARAK – Fair of Faith is presented by Sipping Tea Cinemas and Sudipto Sen Productions. The film is directed by Shieladitya Moulik, with Rajesh Bhatt as Associate Producer, Amarnath Jha as Creative Director, and screenplay by Farauq Malik.
