The strike of thousands of workers of the Telugu film industry ended on Thursday. This decision was taken after the workers and producers reached an agreement on salary hike. Officials of the state labor department were also present in this agreement.
Senior labor department official Gangadhar informed that the Film Workers Federation had been demanding a 30 percent salary hike for the last three years. No solution could be found in the earlier talks, after which the department had to intervene. Eventually, both the parties agreed on a 22.5 percent hike.
Gangadhar said that separate arrangements have been made for low-paid employees. They will get a hike of 15 percent, 2.5 percent and 5 percent for the last three years respectively.
It is worth noting that the workers' strike started on August 4, due to which the shooting of many films came to a halt. They said that there should be a 10 percent increase every year, but there has been no increase in salary for the last four months. Federation leader Alexander had clarified that their demand was not a one-time increase of 30 percent, but a 10 percent increase every year.
At the same time, Telugu Film Chamber Secretary Damodar Prasad said that the workers decided to go on a unilateral strike and were working only with those producers who were paying increased salaries. He also claimed that the Telugu film industry already pays higher salaries than other states.
