Veteran character actor Achyut Potdar dies at 91, Known for iconic dialogue in 3 Idiots

Popular Hindi film character actor Achyut Potdar has died at the age of 91. His health suddenly deteriorated on Monday, August 18, after which he was admitted to the hospital. His condition could not improve during treatment and eventually he breathed his last. The news of his death has caused a wave of mourning in the film world. His last rites will be performed on Tuesday, August 19.

Achyut Potdar got the most recognition from the film 3 Idiots, in which he played the character of a professor. His famous dialogue – “Hey, kehna kya chahte ho?” was well received by the audience and this dialogue is still used as memes on social media.

Before making a name in films, his life went through many turns. He was a professor in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. After this, he joined the army and retired from the post of Captain in 1967. Later he joined the Indian Oil Company. Along with the job, he turned to theater and started his acting career with theater. He entered films at the age of 44.

Achyut Potdar's film journey was very diverse. Apart from 3 Idiots, he had played important roles in many films like Dabangg 2, Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Bhootnath starring Amitabh Bachchan. Along with films, he also left his mark on the small screen and appeared in the TV serial Amita Ka Amit. In his long career, Achyut Potdar acted in hundreds of films and serials and won the hearts of the audience every time with his natural and lively acting. His departure is a big loss for Hindi cinema.
