Director Ayan Mukerji, who is in the news for 'War 2', is celebrating his birthday today, 15 August. Born in 1983 in a film family of Kolkata, Ayan belongs to the famous Mukherjee-Samarth family. His father, late actor Deb Mukherjee, was the brother of producer-director Shomu Mukherjee. Shomu was the father of Kajol and Tanisha, while Rani Mukherjee is also Ayan's cousin.

Ayan left college studies midway and chose the path of films. He started his career as an assistant director in brother-in-law Ashutosh Gowariker's film Swades (2004). After this, he was also an assistant director in Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. In 2009, Ayan made his debut as a director with Wake Up Sid, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma in the lead.
