Marathi film ‘Khalid Ka Shivaji’ sparks controversy; Hindu organization demands ban

The controversy over Maharashtra's upcoming Marathi film 'Khalid Ka Shivaji' has intensified. A Mumbai-based Hindu organization has objected to the film and has demanded the censor board to ban its screening. The film is scheduled to release on August 8 and it is alleged that the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been shown incorrectly in it.

The Pune-based Hindu Mahasangh has sent an objection letter to the censor board and the makers of the film. The organization's president Anand Dave says that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been shown as a secular ruler in the film, which is contrary to his real identity. He has warned that if the film is not banned, protests will be held outside the cinema halls.

Anand Dave has appealed to all the cinema halls in Pune not to show this film. He also said that if this film is shown in rural areas, then an awareness campaign will be run there about the correct history of Shivaji Maharaj. The Hindu Mahasangh claims that history is being tampered with through the film. The organization believes that Shivaji Maharaj is the pride of the Hindu and Maratha community, so a title like 'Khalid's Shivaji' is against his legacy. Directed by Raj More, this film is the story of a Muslim boy who learns about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj through life experiences. An attempt has been made to show history from a different perspective in the film, but this very attempt has become the cause of controversy.

This matter has now taken the form of a cultural and political debate. While the producers are calling it an attempt to look at history with a new perspective, Hindu organizations are considering it an insult to facts and sentiments.
