Ranbir Kapoor chooses ‘Ramayan’ Over Kishore Kumar biopic, Confirms Anurag Basu

These days Ranbir Kapoor is busy preparing for the film 'Ramayan', but very few people know that along with this project, he got an offer for another big film - the biopic of famous singer Kishore Kumar. Ranbir had to make a big decision between these two films. Recently director Anurag Basu has broken his silence on this.

In an interview to BBC News, Anurag Basu told that Ranbir Kapoor had to choose between 'Ramayan' and Kishore Kumar biopic, because the shooting schedules of both were clashing. He said, "This was a difficult decision of life for Ranbir. Kishore Kumar's biopic or Ramayana. But in the end he chose 'Ramayan' and I think it was the right decision."

Ranbir and Anurag Basu have previously worked together in films like ‘Barfi’ (2012) and ‘Jagga Jasoos’ (2017). Both were keen to work together again, but due to Ranbir's busy schedule it was not possible. When Ranbir left Kishore Kumar's biopic, there was also a rumour in the industry that now Aamir Khan can play this role. However, Anurag Basu has not confirmed this yet.

It is worth noting that Anurag Basu has been working on Kishore Kumar's biopic for the last 10 years. At the same time, Sai Pallavi is playing the role of Mata Sita opposite Ranbir in ‘Ramayana’. This film will be released in two parts - the first part will come on Diwali 2026 and the second on Diwali 2027.
