Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ to premiere on YouTube on August 1 for ₹100, Actor admits lying about digital release

Superstar Aamir Khan's film Sitaare Zameen Par is now going to release on YouTube on August 1, 2025. Just six weeks after its theatrical release, the film will be available on Aamir Khan's newly launched YouTube channel "Aamir Khan Talkies" - that too for 100 without any ads. This unexpected move has shocked both the industry and fans.

Aamir announced this decision during an event held in Mumbai and also admitted that he had earlier said that the film would not be released on any digital platform. When Mid-Day questioned him on this statement, Aamir said, "I had to lie to save the theater business. I apologize with folded hands."

Under this digital initiative, films like Lagaan (2001), Taare Zameen Par (2007), Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008), Peepli Live (2010) will also be released on YouTube in the future. Along with this, classic films of his father Tahir Hussain like Karwaan (1971) and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) will also be uploaded on the channel. Aamir's popular TV show Satyamev Jayate will also stream for free.

Film content on YouTube has garnered more than 370 million views till now as of April 2025 (Source: YouTube data, India, 1 April – 16 July 2025).
