The Bollywood film 'Udaipur Files - Kanhaiya Lal Taylor Murder Case' is still embroiled in legal disputes. The central government has approved the release of this film, but this decision has been challenged in the Delhi High Court. The court has clarified that the matter will be heard on July 30.
During the hearing, the court was informed that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has not yet re-certified the film. Earlier, the matter had reached the Supreme Court, from where it was transferred to the Delhi High Court.
It is worth noting that the central government had allowed the release of the film with six cuts. This decision was challenged by several petitioners including Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Arshad Madani. After this, the Delhi High Court had imposed an interim stay on the release of the film. The Supreme Court, while not commenting on this stay, directed the High Court to hear the matter on July 28. The Supreme Court also clarified that it has not imposed any ban on the release of the film. After the Supreme Court's comment, the film's director Bharat Srinet announced on Friday that the film will now be released in theaters on 8 August 2025. Earlier its release date was fixed as July 11. The director also informed that the CBFC has made about 150 cuts in the film.
The film 'Udaipur Files' is based on the Kanhaiya Lal murder case registered in Udaipur, Rajasthan in the year 2022. It is alleged that Kanhaiya Lal had posted on social media in support of BJP leader Nupur Sharma, after which he was brutally murdered by entering his tailor's shop. This incident shocked the entire country and now the film based on it continues to be controversial.
