‘Chhaava’ tops IMDb’s most popular indian films of 2025 so far; Dinesh Vijan says it’s a win for the audience

IMDb has released the list of the most popular Indian films of 2025 so far, in which the historical action drama Chhaava has been ranked first. This list of IMDb is based on the films that were most watched and searched by more than 250 million monthly visitors of IMDb between January 2025 and July 2025. Only those films which have a rating of 6 or above and have received more than 10,000 votes have got a place in this list.

The story of Chhaava is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who was the second ruler of the Maratha Empire. The film is inspired by Shivaji Sawant's novel 'Chhaava'. Vicky Kaushal has played the role of Sambhaji Maharaj in the film and Rashmika Mandanna and Akshay Khanna have also appeared in important roles along with him. The film is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films. The film has received a rating of 7.3 on IMDb.

On this great achievement, producer Dinesh Vijan said, “We are truly grateful that Chhaava has become IMDb's most popular Indian film of 2025 so far. It is a strong testimony to the voice of the audience and it is a pleasure to see that this film has touched the hearts of the people. The hard work of Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna and director Laxman Utekar is the basis of this success.” The film's director Laxman Utekar also expressed happiness over this recognition of IMDb and said, “We are extremely proud that Chhaava received so much love from the audience. This honor is special because it has come directly from the audience. Their positive feedback and support have inspired us to tell better stories.”

Apart from Chhaava, the films that received a lot of love from the audience in IMDb's top 10 Indian films list are: Dragon, Deva, Raid 2, Retro, The Diplomat, L2: Empuraan, Sitaare Zameen Par, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, and VidaaMuyarchi. All these films have attracted the audience in different genres, but Chhaava has topped the IMDb list on the basis of its history, emotion and performance. This proves that the audience in India is not only liking content-driven cinema, but is also giving full support.
