Anurag Basu's multi-starrer film Metro has been in the news to some extent since its release, but its performance at the box office has proved to be very disappointing. This film, which is based on the lives of four different couples and the complexities of relationships, may have emotionally affected the critics, but it has completely failed to draw the general audience to the theatres.
The film earned only Rs 15.50 crore in its first weekend. The film earned Rs 3.25 crore on Friday, Rs 5.65 crore on Saturday and Rs 6.60 crore on Sunday. However, by Monday, the collection saw a huge drop and the film collected only around Rs 2.50 crore. In this way, the total collection in four days has reached around Rs 19 crore, which is very weak considering the name of its star cast and director.
This film is definitely inspired by 'Life in a Metro' released in 2007, but its story is completely new. It stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Anupam Kher. An attempt has been made in the film to show today's relationships, loneliness and career struggles.
Although the music and direction of the film are being liked by some viewers, the general audience is not able to connect with it due to its slow pace and complex story. The format of interconnected stories is also seeming confusing and boring to many people. This is the reason why the box office graph of the film is seen falling rapidly in the first week itself.
