Anurag Basu’s much-awaited Metro… In Dino trailer is finally out, and while fans expected a spiritual successor to Life in a Metro (2007), the trailer leaves much to be desired. With a cast including Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Anupam Kher, the film attempts to explore modern relationships in an urban setting.
The 3-minute-17-second trailer opens with a romantic song by Arijit Singh, clearly aiming to bring back the soulful vibe of Life in a Metro. But despite Pritam’s music, it lacks the emotional depth that made tracks like In Dino and Alvida timeless. Even the remix of In Dino feels flat, and no new track stands out.
The trailer introduces four couples Sara-Aditya as a confused modern duo, Ali-Fatima facing emotional tension, Anupam-Neena in a graceful late-life romance, and Pankaj-Konkona bringing quirky, layered chemistry. But despite the strong lineup, the connections between these stories seem surface-level and emotionally distant.
The dialogues too fall short. Lines like, “Yeh sheher humein jitna deta hai, usse zyada le jaata hai,” feel like recycled social media quotes. Another line, “Kisi ke saath poori zindagi bitane ke liye, baar baar pyaar mein padna padta hai,” gives away the film’s theme too easily, leaving little to look forward to.
Anurag Basu’s visual style is intact, colorful, fast-paced, and whimsical but the storytelling feels too reminiscent of Ludo, lacking freshness or heart. The trailer doesn’t quite live up to the legacy it’s following. Emotional connection is missing, and while the film might still surprise, this glimpse suggests style may have overtaken substance.
Earlier slated for release this year, Metro… In Dino will now hit theatres on 4 July 2025.
