In August 2023, reports surfaced that a sequel to the 1997 cult blockbuster, Border, was in the works, with Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta teaming up. Sunny Deol was set to reprise his role as Major Kuldip Singh Chanduri, while Ayushmann Khurrana was announced as a new addition to the franchise, playing a significant role in the Indian Armed Forces.
The sequel, titled Border 2, was slated for a Republic Day 2026 release and would be directed by acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Singh.
T-Series and JP Dutta Films were reportedly assembling a top-notch technical crew for the project, aiming to create the biggest war film in Indian cinema history.
Despite no official announcement, Border 2 had already become one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema, set to hit screens on January 23, 2026, coincidentally marking 29 years since the original film's release.
