Kamal Haasan did it before Joaquin Phoenix, claim netizens as they notice similarities between Aalavandhan and Joker: Folie à Deux

The trailer of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga's musical psychological thriller Joker: Folie à Deux has been a sensation ever since it released yesterday globally. Critics and fans are raving about it for the cinematic brilliance and depth in every frame. The most talked about and appreciated scene has to be the final shot.

The closing shot of Joker: Folie à Deux features Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck and his diabolic red smile on a glass wall. Eagle-eyed netizens noticed a lot more in the sequence than other viewers. Indian fans of Joker found a striking resemblance between the glass wall scene and a sequence from Suresh Krissna's 2001 action thriller Aalavandhan.

In a scene from Aalavandhan, Kamal Haasan looks at himself in the mirror. His face then matches a blood-red smile on the mirror. The character seems to be in disbelief and then turns away, feeling guilty. On the other hand, the trailer of Joker: Folie à Deux shows Harley Quinn meeting Arthur in jail. The lovers communicate through actions and gestures. She draws the iconic Joker smile on the glass and he fits his smile against that.

Joker: Folie à Deux releases globally on October 4.
