Ram Mandir Inauguration: RRR, Adipurush to HanuMan, 5 films inspired by Ramayan

Ram Janmabhoomi is decked up for the arrival of the Lord. The much-anticipated Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony is taking place today in Ayodhya amid the presence of spiritual and political leaders along with celebrities from different walks of life. The Pran Pratishtha ceremony is a star-studded affair.

Over the years, several filmmakers have explored the story of Ramayan and adapted it for the big screen. While some have been retellings of the Hindu epic, a few films have taken references from the story and made it palatable for the younger generations. From Prabhas-Kriti Sanon's Adipurush to the recently released Teja Sajja's HanuMan, let's take a look at films that are based on or inspired by Ramayan.

RRR

RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, has been heavily inspired by Ramayan. The climax showed Ram Charan dressed like Lord Ram and using arrows as weapons. His character sketch was prominently borrowed from Ramayan. Alia Bhatt's character was named Sita and Jr NTR's role resembled that of Lord Hanuman.

Hum Saath Saath Hai

Sooraj Barjatya took inspiration from Ramayan for his ensemble film, Hum Saath Saath Hai. The film was about a matriarch who cut off her stepson and his wife from the family which led to a gap in the clan. It had several references from the Hindu epic.

HanuMan

Teja Sajja's HanuMan is based on Lord Hanuman. Paying tribute to his strength and power, the character's name is Hanumanthu and revolved around his story after he gained supernatural powers.

Adipurush

Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan's Adipurush was a retelling of Ramayan. Director Om Raut presented it in a modern way with heavy visual effects and big-scale production.

Raavan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Vikram's Raavan by Mani Ratnam presented Ramayan in a different and rustic manner. Shades of grey were explored as the story was told to the newer generation.
