Former Tamil actor and politician Vijayakanth died at the age of 71 after battling pneumonia this Thursday in Chennai. He has tested positive for Covid-19 and was on ventilator support.
He complained about having breathing issues in the month of November post which he was taken to the hospital. But was discharged after getting back into a stable condition.
Vijayakanth made his last public appearance on December 14.
As the funeral procession began, it was attended by many actors and politicians including Thalapathy Vijay, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan , Ramesh Khanna , Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai, CM Stalin’s sister Selvi Karunanidhi , O. Panneerselvam and G.K. Vasa. Besides, a crowd of his fans also gathered to pay the last tribute to the actor and leader.

Vijayakanth featured in over 150 films before entering politics and fans often call him 'Captain Vijayakanth'.
