He is very handsome I will not get this role: Vicky Kaushal reveals he initially thought he won’t get to work in Sam Bahadur as his looks weren’t enough

The trailer launch event of Sam Bahadur took place in the capital city, Delhi yesterday and was launched by the General Manoj Pande in the presence of the lead actor Vicky Kaushal, film’s director Meghna Gulzar and other co-actors.

During the event, Vicky went on to share that he initially questioned himself if he is good looking enough to portray a role of Sam Manekshaw. He further expressed gratitude to Meghna for letting him portray such a challenging role. And also went on to share that the director told him about her plan of making the film back in the year of 2018 during the shoot of film Raazi which featured Vicky and Alia Bhatt in the lead and later turned into a huge success.

Vicky said, "I remember when Meghna and I were working on Raazi, then during a shooting schedule in Patiala she told me what she wanted to do next. And she said she wants to make a film on Sam Manekshaw."

He further added that although he was aware about the Field Marshall, he never knew about his appearance. So he just Googled about him and felt like he was way too handsome and it would be impossible to get to play his role.

He said, “My mother and father are both from Punjab, and through them, I had heard a lot about him. But I didn’t know how he looked. So during that conversation, I secretly Googled him and saw his photo. I said, ‘He is very handsome and I will not get this role.’ But I have to thank Meghna for giving me the role of this handsome person.”

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is set to release on December 1 and will also feature Fatima Sana Shaikh in the role of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Sanya Malhotra as Vicky’s wife.
