Felt attacked, underwent depression: Mahira Khan on viral smoking pics with Ranbir Kapoor, battling divorce and Uri attack amidst her film release

Pakistani actress Mahira Khan is a superstar, recognised globally. Back on Indian turf, she is well known as Shah Rukh Khan's leading lady in Raees (2017). But besides her role in the film, the actress is also  remembered by fans across the border for her viral smoking pictures with Ranbir Kapoor that broke the internet back in 2017.

When Mahira and Ranbir's pictures from the streets of London got leaked, rumours spread like wildfire both the actors have been secretly dating. It happened in the same year her film with Shah Rukh released.

Mahira, in a podcast,  recently spoke about the hard times which led her to the issues related to mental health and it took long time for the actress to heal.

Mahira shared, “That brought out the anxiety and depression hidden inside me. That was a hard time for me. I felt attacked. The constant backlash… You are getting mean tweets, and comments on their channels. That was a time my faith broke and I developed severe anxiety to the point that one day I had a panic attack and fainted. That was the first time I went to therapy. But that didn't work out, as I went to several therapists... that year was rough... I couldn't sleep, my hands used to shake.I had finished the film (Raees) and everything was going fine and then suddenly this attack  happens. Politically everything gets messed up. With India, it is always political. But the fact that it could get this messy! I was not scared, but I was threatened. Constant tweets I would get calls, and very scary ones. The only thing I wanted was that 'Okay fine I can't go to India to promote it, but I hope it releases in my country because I knew people would rush to watch it as he(Shah Rukh) is loved here.”

Just a year before the unexpected (Uri) attack, the actress also went through divorce with her childhood friend Ali Askari in 2015. The actress added, “Post Azu, I knew my marriage was…even prior I think.. But I think you let it go on and you love the person, who is your childhood sweetheart..But I think that was a very painful and difficult time. I was so young at the time. I had a baby, I was scared. Professionally, I was very successful. I never knew I would become successful overnight with Humsafar. But personally, it was a tough time.”
