Brahmastra, PK to Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, films on mythology and Godmen to watch before Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2

Akshay Kumar is returning to the popular franchise, OMG, with its sequel. It is releasing on August 11, 2023, in cinemas globally. The Amit Rai directorial also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. Akshay, who played Lord Krishna in OMG co-starring Paresh Rawal, will be seen as Lord Shiva in the sequel. The teaser of OMG 2 garnered a positive response from netizens. 

Ahead of OMG 2's much-anticipated release, let's take a look at Hindi films that explores subjects around mythology, Godmen and superstition. From Brahmastra's modern take on myth to PK's perspective on religion, here are 5 films to look out for

Brahmastra

Brahmastra might be a fictional tale but its roots origin from Hindu mythology which is close to director Ayan Mukerji's heart. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy, the film released on September 9, 2022.

PK

Rajkumar Hirani's PK was a multidimensional film with several subplots connecting to religion and Godmen. Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput explored the subject of superstition with a dash of humour.

OMG

Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar presented a courtroom drama that exposed corrupt Godmen.

Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai

Manoj Bajpayee's critically acclaimed film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai tackled the subject of rape. It was loosely based on a true story where a girl was raped by a Godman. The film was directed by Apporv Singh Karki.

 

Ram Setu

Akshay Kumar's Ram Setu, directed by Abhishek Sharma, was about the existence of Ram Setu which was said to be originally constructed by Lord Ram to reach Sri Lanka to save Sita from Ravan's palace.
