The 74th Emmy Awards took place on Monday night and the stars turned out in full glamour and glitz. The ceremony celebrated the best in showbiz and honoured them with the prestigious trophy for their work in 2021, Squid Game, Succession and Ted Lasso won big at the awards ceremony. On the other hand, Zendaya, Matthew Macfayden, Amanda Seyfried, Lizzo, Jennifer Coolidge, Jean Smart, Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Julia Garner, Lee Jung Jae, Jean Smart took home the trophies in various acting categories.
The night will also be remembered for making history with some of the biggest trends and records. Zendaya, who bagged her second Emmy for Euphoria became the first Black woman to win Best Actress award in a Drama Series twice. Zendaya took home the Best Actress in a Drama Series for Euphoria at the Emmy awards. She became the first Black woman to win this coveted award twice and that too at the young age of 26 years. She had previously become the second Black actress to win the category in 2020, after Viola Davis in 2015.

Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae has become the first Asian star to win the Emmy award for best male actor in a drama series. The South Korean won for playing the main role of the increasingly desperate Seong Gi-hun in the hit Netflix show. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show’s creator alson became the first Asian to win the Best Director for a Drama series.

American singer Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls won the competition series Emmy. In the series, we see Lizzo audition a group of women for the chance to be a Big Grrl- one of the plus-sized backup dancers who gets to perform with her on tour. While accepting the award, Lizzo broke down in tears on the Emmy stage. Sharing the stage with her Big Grrls, Lizzo said, “The trophy is nice, but my emotion is for these people who are on the stage with me. The stories that they shared, they’re not that unique. They just don’t get told. Let’s just tell more stories. When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media. Someone fat like me. Black like me. Beautiful like me. If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I would be like, ‘You’re going to see that person, but bitch, it’s going to have to be you.’ One year ago, these women were filming this television show that would change their lives forever. They are Emmy award-winning superstars who are going on a world tour! Make some noise for my Big Grrrls. I love you so much. God bless y’all. This is for the big girls.”
