'What Deepika Padukone did in Gehraaiyaan, I did that 15 years ago in Murder,' says Mallika Sherawat, feels 'people were too narrow-minded back then'

Mallika Sherawat is back in news. This time, it is not only for her project but also for her statement comparing her role in the film Murder to Deepika Padukone's character in Gehraiyaan. While promoting RK/RKAY, the actress spoke to a publication about how a section of the industry always discussed her glamour quotient, not her acting abilities.

"Earlier, the heroines were either too good, sati-savitri types, who were too innocent to know anything, or they were characterless vamps. These were the only two types of roles written for heroines. The change that we see now, shows women as humans. She can be happy or sad. She can make mistakes, she can falter, and you love them despite all of that," Mallika told.

Comparing her role in Murder with Deepika's character in Gehraiyaan, she said, "The heroines are more confident about their bodies as well. Such hue and cry was created when I did Murder. People said all kinds of things about the kiss and the bikini. What Deepika Padukone did in Gehraaiyaan, I did that 15 years ago, but people were too narrow-minded back then."

Gehraiyaan co-starring Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Dhairya Karwa released on Amazon Prime Video on February 11. Murder, also starring Emraan Hashmi and Ashmit Patel, released in 2004.
