‘Hum saath aaye thay Dilli se, humara pehla break pehli film pehli kaamyaabi ek saath-Maachis,’ says Vishal Bhardwaj as he pays an emotional tribute to KK calling him ‘chhota bhaiya’

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj on Wednesday paid an emotional tribute to his close friend, singer KK. The renowned filmmaker called KK his ‘chota bhaiyya (little brother)’ and penned a heartwrenching tribute on Twitter. KK passed away last night on May 31, after performing at a college festival in Kolkata. He was only 53 years-old and his untimely and sudden death left a flurry of tributes from his colleagues, friends and fans. Krishnakumar Kunnath aka KK was also given a gun salute with full state honours in West Bengal and CM Mamata Banerjee paid tribute on his mortal remains in front of his family members at Rabindra Sadan before the body was flown back to Mumbai from Kolkata.

Vishal tweeted, “Mera chhota Bhaiyaa. Hum saath aaye thay dilli se. Humara pehla break pehli film pehli kaamyaabi ek saath (My little brother. Our first break, our first film, our first success, all happened together). Maachis (Chhodh aaye hum wo galiyan. He also sang the 2nd music in Lata ji’s Pani Pani Re). Anginat lamhe, anginat yaadein, bepanah dard, bichhdey sabhee baari baari (Numerous moments, memories, pain and falling apart)." He also added a picture of KK.

The song was composed by Vishal and penned by Gulzar. The film starred Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Tabu, Jimmy Sheirgill, Ravi Gosain and others and was directed by Gulzar.

Several celebs have paid extremely emotional tribute to KK and so did his fans, who just could not fathom that they will no longer be able to hear and see him perform. KK is survived by his wife and two children.
