Randeep Hooda is all set to portray the role of politician, activist, and writer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar. The upcoming biopic is being directed by Mahesh Manjrekar. The film is titled Swatantra Veer Savarkar. The actor announced the news on Instagram this morning with his first look.
Sharing the news on Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday, Randeep wrote, "Kuch kahaniyaan batayi jaati hai aur kuch jee jaati hain! (Some stories are told and some are lived). Grateful, excited and honoured to be part of #SwatantraVeerSavarkar's biopic."
Talking about bringing Veer Savarkar’s story to the screen, Randeep said, “There are many heroes that have played their part in getting us our independence. However, not everyone has got their due. Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is the most misunderstood, debated and influential of these unsung heroes and his story must be told. I am delighted to collaborate with Sandeep after Sarabjit, for Swatantra Veer Savarkar. It will be yet another challenging role to portray.”
Talking about the film, Mahesh Manjrekar added, “This is the right time to tell the stories which we had ignored. Swatantra Veer Savarkar will be an edgy cinematic narrative that will force us to revisit our history. I have been wanting to collaborate with Sandeep Singh, and I am glad that we are doing this film together.”
Many controversies have surrounded the revolutionary and Hindutva ideologue, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Born on May 28, 1883, he was a freedom fighter, politician, lawyer, writer and social reformer.
