Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fly down to Mumbai shortly; to pay last respects to Lata Mangeshkar at Shivaji Park

Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar breathed her last at the age of 92 at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital this morning after suffering from multi-organ failure and chest congestion. She was in the hospital for almost a month post contracting COVID-19 and pneumonia. The funeral will take place at Dadar's Shivaji Park with full state honours. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Mumbai to attend the funeral of the legendary singer. BMC Commissioner, Iqbal Singh Chahal, told in a statement to the media that the Prime Minister will be reaching the funeral ground between 5.45 to 6 pm.

After the news of Lata Didi's demise broke, PM Modi tweeted, "I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people." In another tweet, he said, "I consider it my honour that I have always received immense affection from Lata Didi. My interactions with her will remain unforgettable. I grieve with my fellow Indians on the passing away of Lata Didi. Spoke to her family and expressed condolences. Om Shanti."
