Indians all across the world are celebrating the 73rd Republic Day today. Our tricolour flag can be seen unfurled everywhere with patriotic songs being played on every street. Republic Day is celebrated to commemorate the date when India’s Constitution came into force that is on January 26, 1950. After the Constitution was formed, India came to be recognised as the world’s largest democracy, and on Republic Day the salute is taken by the President and not by the Prime Minister.
