Went like a beggar to everybody after Kabir Singh’s release: Shahid Kapoor on how he came onboard Jersey

Shahid Kapoor went on to have his career’s biggest hit in the form of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh that was an official Hindi remake of Telugu hit Arjun Reddy that starred Vijay Deverakonda in the lead. Shahid’s aggressive avatar was loved by the audience and today at the trailer launch event of his upcoming film Jersey, he revealed that he went like a beggar to everybody after the release of Kabir Singh.

At the trailer launch event of Jersey, Shahid said, “After Kabir Singh released, I went like a beggar to everybody. I have been working for 18 years and finally a film of mine did such big business. I was very uncomfortable thinking about what should I do next after Kabir Singh. Some asked me to play college boy, some asked me to play an aggressive character again. I heard this story and it stayed with me. I saw this film 2 weeks before Kabir Singh was released and I cried buckets. I saw it with Mira and my manager and they were both looking at me.”

The actor further said, “Then Kabir Singh happened and the story stayed close to my heart. Gautam is a very fine filmmaker and the way he has touched my emotional core, I am proud to have played this character under his direction.”

Jersey is the official Hindi remake of Nani’s Telugu hit of the same name. It also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapur and is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. Jersey has been mounted on a lavish scale by its presenter Allu Aravind and producers Aman Gill, Dil Raju and S Naga Vamsi. The film is slated to release theatrically on December 31, 2021.
