SS Rajamouli reacts to RRR clashing with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, says 'bottleneck was expected'

The beginning of 2022 will be historic for Indian cinema as two of the biggest films will be clashing at the box office. SS Rajamouli's pan-India period film RRR will be releasing a day after Sanjay Leela Bhansali's biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi. Both films, despite being of diverse genres, have two common factors- Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. Recently, at RRR's event in Mumbai, SS Rajamouli opened up about the film clashing with Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Reacting to the clash, the filmmaker said the business will not be affected if the films are good. "The clash won’t hamper the business. Even if four films come together, if they are good, people are going to come to watch all of them. There have been multiple instances in the past when this has happened," he told.

Rajamouli added that a 'bottleneck' was expected. "Because of the times we are in, with the pandemic and everything being shut for more than one and a half years, a bottleneck was expected. But if your content is good, it doesn’t matter how many films come together. People are going to come no matter what. They’ll be spoilt for choice," the filmmaker added.

RRR starring Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Alia, Ajay and others is set in pre-independence India. It is a fictional take on the younger days of celebrated freedom fighters, Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju. The film will release on January 7, 2022. Gangubai Kathiawadi is based on Gangubai, a brothel madam from Mumbai's red-light area Kamathipura. It is scheduled to release on January 6, 2022.
