‘Jayalalithaa wanted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play her, but she would have approved Kangana Ranaut’s portrayal in Thalaivii,’ says Simi Garewal

Kangana Ranaut has been receiving rave reviews for her portrayal of actress-turned-politician J.Jayalalithaa in her latest release Thalaivii, not many are aware that the latter wanted Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play her role in her biopic.

Veteran actress Simi Garewal, who recently attended a special screening of the film held by Kangana took to Twitter to reveal the fact. She reviewed the film on Twitter and lavished praise on Kangana for her performance but said that she does not support the actress’ ‘radical comments’. However, Simi said that Jayalalithaa would have approved Kangana’s honest and sincere portrayal. Simi's tweet received a lot of trolling from netizens as well who called her out on her 'disclaimer' about Kangana.

Replying to a comment on her tweet, Simi further applauded Arvind Swami’s performance as MGR in the film and wrote, “You forget he is Arvind Swamy! You believe he REALLY is MGR! But they left out JJ's childhood..I wish they hadn't. It would have had a stronger impact in the story of Jayalalithaa.. but that's only my opinion.”

Besides Kangana and Arvind, Thalaivii also stars Madhoo, Prakash Raj, Jisshu Sengupta, Bhagyashree, and Poorna in key roles. The film has received positive reviews from the audience and the critics alike and a sequel is also on the cards.
