Naseeruddin Shah calls sections of Indian Muslims for celebrating Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan

Naseeruddin Shah never shies away from speaking his mind. From sharing his views on political issues to opinions on cinema, his videos and statements often make headlines. Now, the National Award winner made a video slamming some Indian Muslims who have been sympathising with the Taliban after they took over various regions of Afghanistan. The capital city of Kabul has fallen into the Taliban's hands.

In his video, Naseeruddin lashed out at those Indian Muslims who celebrated the return of the Taliban to Afghanistan after 20 years. The video, which seems to be shot at his residence, went viral on Wednesday evening. Naseeruddin can be heard saying in Hindi, "Even as the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan is a cause for concern for the whole world, celebrations of the return of the barbarians by some sections of Indian Muslims is no less dangerous."

The veteran actor further said, "Every Indian Muslim should ask themselves whether they want modernity and reforms in their religion or they want to go back to age-old barbaric values." He concluded the video by saying, "Like Mirza Ghalib had said a long time back, my relationship with my God is unparalleled. I don’t need political religion. Hindustani Islam is different from Islam that’s practised in the rest of the world and I pray to God that the time doesn’t come where we can’t even recognise that."
