Amitabh Bachchan to step into the shoes of Rishi Kapoor for 'The Intern' remake starring Deepika Padukone?

Last January, Deepika Padukone in association with Sunir Kheterpal's Athena Entertainment and Hollywood's Warner Bros. announced the Hindi adaptation of Nancy Meyer's The Intern. Deepika and Rishi Kapoor were officially brought on board to play the lead characters, enacted by Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro respectively in the original. However, with Rishi Kapoor's passing away last April, his spot went empty.

Now, we hear it is Amitabh Bachchan who will be stepping into the shoes of Rishi to play the role that was originally played by Robert De Niro. Speaking to a Bollywood website, a source close revealed that the Hindi remake of The Intern hit a huge roadblock after the demise of Rishi Kapoor, with the venture missing a crucial member of the cast. The makers had to re-analyze casting and though it took a while, they have locked Amitabh Bachchan for the project and are looking to resume the shoot.

When asked for more details, the source revealed that Amitabh Bachchan has been cast to reprise the role originally meant for Rishi Kapoor and while it is unclear when the film will finally commence shooting, talks are on with cast members to finalise the dates.

The Intern is said to be an intimate relationship-driven drama set in and around the present-day workplace. The film revolves around a 70-year-old widower who, after his retirement, joins an online fashion site as a senior intern. The film takes us through how he adapts to the new job culture and becomes a father figure to his young boss, amidst a lot of drama, tears and feel-good moments.
