‘Couldn’t accommodate Laal Singh Chaddha in my schedule after the lockdown,’ reveals Vijay Sethupathi on why he opted out of Aamir Khan’s film

Tamil superstar Vijay Sethupathi was all set to make his big Bollywood debut alongside Aamir Khan in Laal Singh Chaddha, the official Hindi adaptation of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. However, the actor had to opt out of the project; rumours abound that since he could not lose weight hence he had to forego the role. On the contrary, the reason for Vijay backing out of the film is somewhat different about which Vijay finally opened up.

In a report published in a portal, Vijay explained why he couldn’t take up the project and weight was certainly not an issue. He said that the role was offered to him by Aamir personally and said, “Aamir sir personally offered me the role. He then flew down to Tamil Nadu where I was shooting to narrate the script to me. For some reason the director Advait Chandan couldn’t come. Aamir sir came alone, narrated the script and stayed overnight in that town and left the next morning. Such a big superstar and no airs. And he is a marvelous storyteller. The way he narrated the story was mesmerizing. I immediately said yes.”

Explaining why he couldn’t be part of the project, he said the pandemic affected the dates he had set aside for the project and said, “COVID happened. It ransacked all our plans. After the lockdown I had five Telugu projects in various stages of production to complete. I just couldn’t accommodate Laal Singh Chaddha in my schedule."

Vijay concluded by saying that it would be an honour to work with Aamir in the future. Laal Singh Chaddha is directed by Advaita Chandan and also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead.
