The sad part was that everybody wanted to project me like Shammi Kapoor: When Rajiv Kapoor revealed why his career failed

Bollywood actor Rajiv Kapoor passed away at the age of 58 today after suffering a cardiac arrest when he was with his family members for a meeting. His sister-in-law Neetu Kapoor posted a picture of the actor on social media and she wrote, "RIP" as she confirmed the news.

Even though Rajiv belonged to the famous Kapoor filmy family, his career never took off like brothers Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and father Raj Kapoor. In a 2016 interview, he admitted that 1985's Ram Teri Ganga Maili remains his most well-known work. He starred in a string of flops after that. Rajiv said that he was always compared to his uncle, Shammi Kapoor, because of their physical resemblance to each other. He had told, "As far as my career is concerned, Ram Teri Ganga Maili is the best film I did. The other films didn’t do well, but not all were bad. The sad part was that everybody wanted to project me like Shammi Kapoor, because I looked like him."

He continued, "To summarise in simple language – hit is fit. If your movies did well things would be on a different tangent. I did some nice films which had good music, but not many did well."

Rajiv Kapoor was also an actor, a producer, and a director. He was a part of Bollywood's Kapoor clan. His elder brother Rishi Kapoor passed away in April 2020 after a 2-year-long battle with cancer.
