Anurag Basu takes a jibe at Kangana Ranaut, says 'I don't understand her public persona, there are two Kanganas'

Kangana Ranaut made her acting debut in 2006 in Anurag Basu's Gangster. With the film, she shot to fame and became a household name. 14 years later, Kangana is known for many more things than just acting. Talking to a leading daily about selecting her for the role of Simran in Gangster, Anurag told that he found something unique in her. After auditioning 20-25 girls for the role, he finalised Kangana.

Anurag went on to call the actress a quick learner and said he saw her grow during the filming of Gangster itself. "Of the 20-25 girls we auditioned for the part, her face just stuck in my head - there was something unique about her. In the beginning, she needed guidance for everything. But she is a really fast learner. I have seen her growth during the filming of Gangster itself. There was something very raw and organic about her, very refreshing, very new," Anurag told.

Talking about whether he noticed indications of the person Kangana would become, Anurag added, "Not really. We usually don’t meet, but whenever we do, this public persona is not the Kangana I know personally. So I think there are two Kanganas. Beech wali [the other one] I don’t understand."

In 2018, Kangana was supposed to reunite with Anurag for a film titled Imali. However, the actress expressed her desire to focus on her directorial career and opted out.

Recently, Kangana has taken digs at Bollywood celebrities like Hrithik Roshan, Diljit Dosanjh, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Taapsee Pannu and others.
