Google Doodle pays tribute to iconic actor Zohra Sehgal on her film Neecha Nagar's anniversary

Zohra Sehgal - an iconic name, an unforgettable face. Be it the dance, theatre, television or silver screen, there is no platform that Zohra did not grace with her mesmeric presence in a career that spanned across sixty-years and two continents. Google dedicated a doodle in memory of the veteran actor and dancer's anniversary of the release of her 1946 film, Neecha Nagar. On this day, the film released at the Cannes International Film Festival.

A statement on the doodle page of Google.com said that guest artist Parvati Pillai’s illustration was a celebration of ‘one of the country’s first female actors to truly achieve recognition on the international stage’. Neecha Nagar won the festival’s highest honour - the Palme d’Or prize - that year.

Segal was born on 27 April, 1912, in Saharanpur, and began her career as a dancer in choreographer Uday Shankar's troupe in 1935. Till 1943, Segal toured across USA, Japan and Europe, performing with Shankar's group. Zohra passed away, at a ripe old age of 102, in 2014.
