End of an era: Lata Mangeshkar, Madhuri Dixit Nene and B-town celebs share condolence messages for SP Balasubrahmanyam

The Hindi and South film industries are yet to come to terms with the passing away of music great SP Balasubrahmanyam or popularly known as SPB. Unfortunately, the veteran singer breathed his last today at the age of 74. The celebrated singer was admitted to Chennai’s MGM Healthcare Hospital since August 5, after testing positive for COVID-19. The singer tested negative for the novel Coronavirus on September 8 but could not be taken off the ventilator because of the condition of his lungs.

He suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest today. SPB is survived by wife Savitri, a son S.P. Charan - a movie producer and playback singer, and daughter Pallavi. Now, Bollywood and South celebrities have paid their last respects to the veteran singer. 

Akshay Kumar posted a collage with SPB on Twitter and wrote, "Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Balasubrahmanyam ji.Just a few months back I’d interacted with him during a virtual concert in this lockdown..he seemed hale,hearty & his usual legendary self...life is truly unpredictable. My thoughts & prayers with his family #RIPSPB"

Raveena Tandon tweeted, "Indeed a sad day! A legend has passed . #OmShanti #SPbalasubramanyam"

Madhuri Dixit Nene wrote, "End of an era... Your voice will always remain in our hearts #SPBalasubraniam ji. The way you weaved magic with your music is umatched. Rest in peace & my heartfelt condolences to the family in grief" 

Anil Kapoor wrote, "Great human being and an incredible singer...lucky to have had him dub for me...give his voice to my performances in my first Telugu and Kannada film...SP Balasubrahmanyam will be missed truly...my heartfelt condolences & prayers to the family..."

Aditi Rao Hydari paid her tribute as she posted, "Rest in peace sir. You will forever be the voice of eternal love... My condolences and prayers to the family and fans..."

Riteish Deshmukh wrote, " - #SPBalasubrahmanyam ji -thank you for the amazing music: -with a heavy heart I say... ? Rest in glory Sir. Condolences to the family, loved ones & millions of fans world over." 

PM Narendra Modi also paid a tribute to the legendary singer as he tweeted, "With the unfortunate demise of Shri SP Balasubrahmanyam, our cultural world is a lot poorer. A household name across India, his melodious voice and music enthralled audiences for decades. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

Ajay Devgn, Hema Malini and Lata Mangeshkar also shared condolense messages for SPB.  

Asha Bhosle shared on SP Balasubramaniam's demise "This year has seen a lot of unfortunate events. And the  news of SP Balasubramaniam's demise that I have heard just now makes me even sadder. He was an amazingly versatile artiste. His first songs after South, in Hindi with Lakshmikant Pyarelal were amazing. His duet with Lata didi was very memorable. Balu sang a lot of songs for RD Burman and was his friend. He had helped me a lot with my Tamil pronunciation in my song for Ilayaraja. The loss of such a great artiste has left a huge void in the music world. I wish his soul to rest in peace."
