Anurag Kashyap's and Richa Chadha's lawyers issue statements in response to Payal Ghosh's MeToo allegations

Payal Ghosh accused Anurag Kashyap of 'forcing himself' on her and that too 'extremely badly' in a tweet on Saturday. The actress who starred in the Hindi language film Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi, in further statements, reportedly went on to name Huma Qureshi, Richa Chadha and others. Now, reacting to Payal's allegations, Richa, with the help of her lawyer, has issued a statement. The statement condemned the act of falsely dragging her name into the controversy. The statement further mentioned that the actress believes genuinely wronged women should get justice at all costs. Richa's lawyer also informed that she will take proper legal actions and will pursue her legal rights.

"Our Client ‘Ms. Richa Chadha’, condemns the act of her name being unnecessarily and falsely dragged in a derogatory manner into controversies and allegations being recently raised by third parties. Though our Client believes that genuinely wronged women should get justice at all costs, there are legislations that are intended to ensure that women have an equal standing in their workplace and to ensure that they have a cordial workplace in which their dignity and self-respect is protected," the statement reads.

Anurag, who found himself in the whirlpool of troubles, shared the statement from his lawyer Priyanka Khimani on his behalf. The statement mentioned that the filmmaker is 'deeply pained by the false allegations'. Claiming that the MeToo movement is being used for vested interests, Anurag's lawyer stated that the accusations are malicious and dishonest.

"My client, Anurag Kashyap, has been deeply pained by the false allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently surfaced against him. These allegations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. It is sad that the social media movement as important as the #meetoo movement has been co-opted by vested interests and reduced to a mere tool for character assassination," the statement read.
