Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj cremated in Mumbai with state honour, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and others pay their last respects

Legendary Hindustani classical vocalist and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj passed away in New Jersey on Monday, August 17, 2020. He turned 90 in January this year. Yesterday, his body was brought to Mumbai for final rites. The cremation took place this morning with his family including son Shaarang Dev, daughter Durga Jasraj and grandchildren Swar Sharma, Avni Jasraj Mehra, Rishabh Dev Pandit and Eshwari Pandit. Industry members like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Kailash Kher, Karanvir Bohra, Udit Narayan, Lalit Pandit, Anup Jalota, Rukhsar Rehman and others paid their last respects to the Sangeet Martand. 

Pandit Jasraj was cremated this morning at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle. He was given a 21-gun salute. Wrapped in the tricolour, the legendary vocalist was cremated with state honour. Due to the pandemic, only 25-30 people were reportedly permitted to attend the funeral.

Pandit Jasraj, whose legacy spans more than eight decades, passed away after a cardiac arrest in New Jersey. He was in the US before the lockdown started and decided to stay back. Belonging to the Mewati Gharana, the legendary vocalist was honoured with Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
