‘Anyone looking to make a sequel to ‘Masoom’?: Shekhar Kapur has ‘even cuter’ kid as replacement for Jugal Hansraj’s role

It's a flashback Tuesday for filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as he went down memory lane and recalled working with Jugal Hansraj in the film Masoom, which released in 1983. "Jugal, I don't know if you remember what a run around you gave me to do the part. I saw you in the Amul Dada commercial, and it took me months to convince you to act in the movie. I would have to take you to the recordings of the songs, take you to sets on studios, to convince you to that film making can be really interesting exciting and fun," Shekhar Kapur shared.

Masoom is Shekhar Kapur's first directorial film. It narrates story of a happily-married man whose life turns upside down when he gets to know that he has a son from a past affair. The film featured Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi, with Jugal Hansraj and Urmila Matondkar as child actors.

The ‘Masoom Family’. I have a confession to make. I was catching a train the next day to start filming. The night before my friends Aruna and Vikas Desai were explaining the fundamentals of film making. Simplistic stuff like not ‘crossing the line’ when shooting close ups! I knew absolutely nothing about film making before I embarked on the shooting of the film. I had never assisted anyone. I had not studied film making. Nothing. I had my two friends , Aruna and Vikas, my editors, who had suffered years of me telling them stories. I couldn’t stop telling stories. ‘ if you can tell a story like you do, you can make a film’ they would say. I discovered the technique of film making as I shot the film. Like being thrown into the deep end of a pool, without knowing how to swim. That’s why i think Masoom survives till today. I just concentrated on what i knew. Emotions, characters and Story. Not technique .. I was naive to think i could make a film. I was the real ‘masoom’. Supported by a great cast and technicians of course. Yet people say ‘Masoom’ is my best film? How do I become naive again? How do I become ‘Masoom’ again? #masoom #naive #film #director #filmmaking #directing #actors #editors #kids #innocent @kaverikapur @maalfunktion_08 @mihirkalpana

The film was an adaptation of Erich Segal's 1980 novel Man, Woman And Child. Along with his post, Kapur shared a family picture of Jugal with his son and wife. "Anyone looking to make a sequel to Masoom, needs to look no further for the cast. Even cuter than Jugal Hansraj was in Masoom, is his wife Jasmine and Jugal's son. Sidak . What a beautiful family. They live happily in New York. And no, I have no intention of making a sequel to Masoom, " he added.
