RoadTo20: Abhishek Bachchan reveals sharing screen space with Jaya Bachchan in ‘Desh’ and shedding his ‘awkwardness’ thanks to Anupam Kher

Abhishek Bachchan, who is all set to complete 20 years in Bollywood at the end of this month recalled how he ended up sharing screen space with his mother, veteran actress Jaya Bachchan in the Bengali film Desh. This was way back in 2002, when Abhishek was relatively new in the industry and visited his mother on the sets of the film and went on to appear in a cameo as her onscreen son.

The actor, who has been actively sharing a roadmap of sorts of his Bollywood journey on Instagram wrote about the incident, “Year- 2002 A year of many firsts!!! But the top would be getting to be part of a film with my mother. Desh, was a Bengali film she was acting in (directed by Raja Sen). I was in Kolkata for a function when she called me and asked me to visit her. She was shooting near Siliguri in West Bengal. I did. And ended up doing a small cameo as her on screen son.”

He also acknowledged his ‘guru’ Anupam Kher in the post and added, “The other would be, being directed by one of my acting teachers, my guru. Om Jai Jagdish was Anupam uncle's 1st film as a director. He helped me immensely in opening up as an actor and shedding my awkwardness. One of the best teachers I've ever had."

Anupam also responded to Abhishek’s post and wrote, “I only brought out what was already there in you. Love and blessings.”

Earlier, Abhishek had shared an anecdote from the year 2001 and wrote, “#RoadTo20 The year- 2001
#BasItnaSaKhwaabHai Two childhood best friends who wanted to make a movie together ever since they were thrown off the set of their fathers film for breaking the props because as a 5 yr old and 6 yr old we got excited seeing fake swords on set. The movie was #Pukar and @goldiebehl ‘s father ( the great Ramesh Behl) was the Director and my dad the lead. During the climax shoot in Goa we chanced upon the fake swords and started playing with them and then eventually breaking them. We were promptly sent back to the crew hotel. 19 yrs later we made our first film together. @goldiebehl @srishtibehlarya @amitabhbachchan.”

Abhishek was last seen in Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan that also starred Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. He will be next seen in Bob Biswas which is being produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment. The actor has also signed The Big Bull, Anurag Basu's Ludo and will also be making his web-series debut with Amazon Prime's Breathe: Into The Shadows.
