Sidharth Malhotra's Thadam remake to go on floors in August; makers to reportedly not shoot in Delhi

Earlier this year, it was announced that Sidharth Malhotra will feature in the Hindi remake of the Tamil superhit film Thadam. Scheduled to go on floors in Delhi in May, the action-thriller was hampered by the unpredicted Coronavirus lockdown. Now, three months later, as state governments in India are permitting film industries to reopen, producers of the yet-to-be-titled remake of Thadam- Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani are targetting August to begin shooting. A trade source told a leading daily that the makers were planning to take the film to Delhi for a start-to-end schedule, but the capital is yet to allow shootings to take place. Amid this, they are said to be considering new locations.

"As per the original plan, the unit was to head to Delhi in May where the film would be shot in a start-to-finish schedule. The director was keen on shooting certain crucial sequences across real locations. Now, even as the state government has allowed the resumption of shoots, there has been no such development in the capital. So, the makers are considering other possible locations where they can set the story," the trade source told.

Murad, who is producing the film with Bhushan, told the daily that it is too early to decide whether shooting in Delhi is feasible. He added that the team will take a call in the month of July. As of now, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu have permitted shooting. "Currently, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Maharashtra have given permission to shoot. It is too early to decide whether we will film in Delhi or another city; we don't know which state governments will allow shooting by August. We will take a call early next month," Murad said.

He further added that the remake that features Sidharth in dual roles, was eyeing a November 23 release. However, it now seems difficult to meet the deadline. Murad stated that before going on floors, Sidharth's look test and a 10-day preparation will be required. "We were eyeing a November 23 release, but that is not possible. Sidharth was to shoot for Indra Kumar's film before he began our movie, so he will have to work out his dates. Since he has two different looks, he will need to do look tests and a 10-day prep," the producer concluded.

Thadam, written and directed by Magizh Thirumeni, released in 2019 and starred Arun Vijay in a double role. The film revolved around a murder which led to a cat and mouse chase between the identical-looking characters and the cops in-charge. Mrunal Thakur plays the role of a cop in the Hindi remake.
